Gabela
Location: Lincian, Yunnan
Altitude: 1,600–1,800 m
Harvest: Spring 2024, pressed in 2025
🌱 Origin
This pu-erh is produced at a small family-run farm owned by the Yang family. The trees grow at an altitude of 1,700 meters on mineral-rich soils, which give the infusion power, body, and richness.
The leaves are harvested by hand, without machinery or fertilizers.
In 2024, the harvest totaled just 10 tons. We managed to secure a spot in a large batch through a personal connection—and took only 4 baskets.
🍵 Taste and aroma
Gabela is a shu pu-erh that holds its own from the first to the last infusion—13 infusions strong!
It is neither bitter nor ashy. The flavor profile is rich and deep:
a light smoky note,
tree bark,
a subtle, mature sweetness and dark chocolate,
a hint of licorice,
dried fruits: figs, dried apricots, a touch of raisins.
Lots of golden buds, reminiscent of the “Magnificent and Prosperous” style.
🌀 Special Feature
Gabela is a tea that makes it hard to sit still. Its infusion fills you with energy: it makes you want to think, act, and move forward.
💡 Name
Gabella translates as “toll, a fee for passage.”
It’s a metaphor for the inner price paid by anyone who wants to go deeper.
👉 This pu-erh is the choice for those seeking a flavor with character and movement instead of stagnation. I’ve drunk it at different times of the day and have always enjoyed it. Tea for everyone!
